Quote

Found a nice quote today.

"The secret to life is to 'die' before you die. And find that there is no death..."

Eerie, and a little morbid, but kind of makes sense...

Ahoy, matey!

I've been playing this pirate game, Port Royale 2. And it has been a blast! The time is around 1670's, a time when European powers were colonizing the world and setting up trade between Europe and the Carribean. You manage ships and can become a trader, an entrepreneur, a military officer of one of the European powers, or live life as an outlaw by being a pirate, or even become a pirate hunter yourself! Of all the persons you can become, I prefer to be--tada!--an entrepreneur.

I just love the concept of building something, and that something generates more cashflow which can enable you to build more things that in turn generate more cashflow, until the only problem left is that you can't build enough things that let you have an outlet for all those cashflows! So, a trickle become a stream, becomes a river, becomes a tsunami!

13 Going On 30 Going Down To 0

I watched this movie last night. And all I can say is this movie is so lame that I've made up my mind about half way into the movie. The acting was sub-par, Jennifer Garner was not even convincing for a comedy. Judy Greer (“What Women Want”, “Wedding Planner” and “Adaptation”) was superb, but the role given to her was just awful. Her character was so inconsistent and one-sided that it will fail logic once a brain wave of thought is applied. Jennifer Garner's boss in the movie, Richard, is so helpless at leading a magazine company you wonder how he even got that position. Then, the ultimate sign that this was a movie not for me was the slumber party scene of Garner with other 13 year olds (note I used the word "other"). But that's not the saddest part. The saddest part is that I watched it till the end. :((

But movies like these are useful. It makes you appreciate other movies that are truly great that might escape you when all you watch are top-caliber films. So, this is a welcome but hopefully less than regular occurence. ^_^

Yankees lost :(

This is crazy. My Yankees lost. :( Kudos to Red Sox for pulling off an unbelievable 4 straight game run to capture the ALCS and finally go to the World Series. Sox fans must be jumping for joy right now, for you cannot get anymore dramatic this year. This is your moment Sox fans, enjoy it, for this happens only once every 85 years. Muwahahahaha!

For all the marbles, baby

Ok, forget the hype, forget the $185 million salary, forget the curse. This one’s down to a few hours, and history will be written. It will be determined by who can rise up the challenge. This one’s for all the marbles, baby. Winner take all. Losers will have a year to lick their wounds, and very painful ones at that.

Last year, Yankees win a very fateful game 7 thanks to a solo home run by Aaron Boone in extra innings. Now Boone, traded out of the Yankees won’t have another opportunity to do that. Will another Yankee step up to the plate? Or will it be a Red Sox this time? In a short 4 hours or more, a history 85 years in the making is about to reach a milestone. Will this be finally be the year the Red Sox defeat their arch nemesis? Or will this be a year where the Yankees will prevail for the 2,000,000,000th time?

"Fuck Yeah!"

I had a relatively busy Saturday. I had an exam about computer networking where I had only 1 day to study. So, most of friday night and early saturday I was awake, pumping caffeine into my bloodstream every now and then to keep me studying. I ended up not doing much really.

I got lucky because the exam wasn't hard. It was just a bunch of straightforward questions you can figure out from the book with one glance. I finished the 2-hour exam in a blistering 20 minutes. Hopefully the lack of sleep didn't made me hallucigenic--that the exam was indeed easy and not some product of my imagination :). Regardless, I felt good about the exam.

A few hours later, I got to watch "Team America: World Police". I have to say, it's so damn funny, I was laughing out loud in a lot of scenes. It's a smart and funny movie, and pokes fun at a lot of things. I can imagine why some people would get mad at it, for it's totally irreverent. It's about this team, Team America, that goes around the globe policing terrorists, but couldn't stop leaving a destructive path themselves.

The most memorable scenes were the sex scenes between two of the characters, and the climax speech. The climax speech was just plain brilliant, making sense and at the same time, being so funny.

After this, I retired back to my apartment, ready to go call it an early night, only to be treated with a Yankee-Red Sox game 3. It was a great game with the Yankees ending dominating the Red Sox 19-8. Not much the Bostonians can do about it. I guess, they have next year to try it again.

batter up!

It's amazing that I'm enjoying watching major league baseball. It's not so much that I like the sport, because I haven't played baseball all my life; and I get the feeling that you can compress all the action of one game into a few minutes, and not miss a thing.

I think it's because baseball has this sense of history. You follow the story of the players, the ballclubs' glorious--or sordid--histories, and the fans' desperation for their team to win the World Series. All of these draw you in. It's drama in real life. And it does not get any better than this.

Watching baseball to me means to be alive. Whether you undergo an exhilirating rush with your team's victories or suffer agony with your team's lows, you were there. You were witness to this team's struggles.

You invest a part of your happiness with this team's success. And that means, as much as you cheer for your team to win, you also allow yourself to be vulnerable when they lose. And that, is what being alive truly means.
