Recently, I have not been very honest with myself. In fact, I have been downright deceitful towards myself. How? Let me ask you this: Would you pick up a dead animal, hoping it would come alive and live with you as a pet? Well, I've been doing something like that for a few weeks now. I wished that that dead animal become alive, and I've actually been wasting a lot of my time and energy staring at it, hoping for a miracle. I kept on thinking that somehow, if I stare at it long enough, it will become awaken from it's sleep and so I can bring home to be my pet.

Then why not pick-up a live stray and make that your pet? You're trying summon a miracle when it is possible that the miracle is in another form or location. You are possibly still longing dude, for what you have lost. Good luck whichever approach you choose.
Actually, brymac, I'm feeling the key is to not long for a pet, but be happy with what I've got--with or without a pet. The longing won't disappear overnight, but may take weeks or months.
what u need is a girlfriend! lol!
